Clean up Clontarf Weekend!

This Saturday, April 21st sees two community initiatives in action in an effort to keep Clontarf clean for us all.

First off is the third of the Street Clean Up operations. This is the combined initiative involving the Clontarf Business Association, the Clontarf Residents’ Association, Dublin City Council and local residents on the respective roads.  It follows on the from the success of the two previous operations, and this time the roads involved are:

  • The Stiles Road

  • Victoria Road

If you are a resident on these roads, you need to note the following:

  • You will need to move your car off the road for 2 hours from 10:45am
  • Even if the road sweeper has passed your house, you should still leave the space clear as they may do more than one drive past.
  • For best results, you…

Statement from the Joint CRA/CBA committee responsible for flood defence discussions with Dublin City Council.

There was a meeting held last week between the joint CRA/CBA group and Dublin City Council which was a follow on to the meeting held in January.

We were hoping to have a set of minutes to publish on the website this week but we are just trying to sign these off at the moment.

We hope to have them on the website very shortly and also plan to include them on the next newsletter.

Many of you have commented on the very successful PR campaign that was run last year to publicise the opposition to the flood defence plans put forward by Dublin City Council.

The coverage we received complemented all of the other aspects of the campaign and also brought the issue to a citywide and indeed a national audience.

Clontarf-based Ken Curran was the PR adviser assisting the main committee and his advice and judgement were hugely valuable as the campaign progressed to the major national media organisations.

If you are a small or medium sized business manager/owner…

Hollybrook Road Clean Up - Great Success

Hollybrook Road hasn't looked as well for quite a while!

This is as a result of a joint clean-up operation yesterday morning organised by local Clontarf residents and Dublin City Council. It involved moving all cars off the road for a short period of time to allow a road cleaning crew from DCC to have full access to the road.

There was great co-operation from local residents and that meant that the road was fully cleaned over a 2 hour period.

This is a great example of how we can make better use of the resources offered by DCC while being mindful of the budget constraints…

After lengthy discussions with Dublin City Council Engineering Department it has been definitively stated that they are not in a position to provide sandbag defences on the seafront due to cuts in their funding. In a a recent communication from Tom Leahy, Executive Manager (Engineering), DCC, he stated that “Dublin City Council does not have financial provision in the 2012 budget for purchase of any additional sandbags.”

This relates both to the provision of the large 1 tonne sandbags that were previously deployed and also the smaller sandbags that had previously…
